We collect as little as we can, keep it only as long as we need it, and never sell it. Here is exactly what happens to your information.
Who is responsible

What we collect and why
- Your email address — to sign you in, save your books and send messages you ask for (sign-in codes, gift emails).
- Your story — the recording or text you give us, to write and illustrate your book. Recordings are deleted as soon as they have been turned into text.
- Details you choose to share about the child — a first name and optional looks (hair, skin, glasses, favorite color) to draw the pictures. We never ask for photos.
- Your book — the text, pictures, narration and files we make for you.
- A gift recipient’s email, only if you schedule a gift email. We delete it once the email has been sent.
- Purchases — handled by Paddle. We receive which pack you bought and when; we never see your card details.
- Basic technical data — needed to keep the service secure, such as a sign-in cookie.
We use this data to provide the service you asked for (contract), to keep it safe and prevent abuse (legitimate interest), and to meet legal duties such as tax records (legal obligation).
Who helps us
- Google (Gemini API, paid tier) — turns recordings into text, writes the story, draws pictures and reads aloud. Under Google’s paid terms, your content is not used to train their models.
- Paddle — our reseller and Merchant of Record, which takes payments and handles taxes.
- Resend — sends our emails.
- Our hosting provider (OVHcloud, Germany) — stores the service and your books in the EU.
Some of these providers may process data outside the EU. Where they do, they use legal safeguards such as the EU’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Recordings: deleted right after they become text.
- Free previews you never unlock: deleted after 90 days.
- Your account and finished books: until you delete them.
- Purchase records: as long as tax law requires.
Children
Lapstory is for adults. We do not create accounts for children and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Details about a child are provided by an adult, only to make their book.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
You can access, correct, download or delete your data, and object to or restrict how we use it. You can delete a book or your whole account at any time from My books, or write to us. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, such as the Polish UODO.
